Protest action at the Embassy of Egypt in Ljubljana by the Solidarity Committee for free Palestine
Around 30 people gathered today in front of the Egyptian Embassy in Ljubljana, where they read out the statement Egypt is a partner in genocide.
The statement criticizes Egypt’s role in facilitating the genocide of the Palestinian people by blocking the only land border with Gaza. By taking this decision, the Egyptian authorities are actively preventing the transport of essential medical equipment, food and other necessities of life to the Gaza Strip, which is devastated by the constant Israeli bombing of civilian infrastructure. The border is also closed to the passage of people fleeing attacks. By blocking the crossing, Egypt profits from the desperate refugees, who are charged 5000 USD and more to cross the border.
Despite the fact that the Egyptian government has announced that it is joining the South African ICJ action, this does not change the current situation.
The declaration, signed by several collectives and initiatives, was thrown over the fence of the embassy, which was, because of the press conference, guarded by numerous police.
